You are my place of safety. You are like a shield that keeps me safe. I have put my hope in your word.

My body trembles because I have respect for you. I have great respect for your laws.

With my lips I talk about all the decisions you have made.

I get up before the sun rises. I cry out for help. I’ve put my hope in your word.

Let me live so that I can praise you. May your laws keep me going.

Lord, I remember the laws you gave long ago. I find comfort in them.

May those who have respect for you be filled with joy when they see me. I have put my hope in your word.

I deeply long for you to save me. I have put my hope in your word.

My God, when you hand down your decision, let it be in my favor. Stand up for me against an unfaithful nation. Save me from those lying and sinful people.

But here is what God says to a sinful person. “What right do you have to speak the words of my laws? How dare you speak the words of my covenant!

The Lord is known to be fair by the things he does. Evil people are trapped by what they have done.

You have proved that I haven’t done anything wrong. You have sat on your throne and judged fairly.

“Here is the covenant I will make with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit is on you and will not leave you. I have put my words in your mouth. They will never leave your mouth. And they will never leave the mouths of your children or their children after them. That will be true for all time to come,” says the Lord.

You also became believers in Christ. That happened when you heard the message of truth. It was the good news about how you could be saved. When you believed, he stamped you with an official mark. That official mark is the Holy Spirit that he promised.

God chose to give us new birth through the message of truth. He wanted us to be the first harvest of his new creation.

People shouted at him and made fun of him. But he didn’t do the same thing back to them. When he suffered, he didn’t say he would make them suffer. Instead, he trusted in the God who judges fairly.
