My enemies have treated me badly ever since I was a young nation. But they haven’t won the battle.

Lord, keep me safe from the hands of sinful people. Protect me from those who want to hurt me. They plan ways to trip me up and make me fall.

Prove your goodness to me. Then my enemies will see it and be put to shame. Lord, you have helped me and given me comfort.

The people of Jerusalem say, “Don’t laugh when we suffer, you enemies of ours! We have fallen. But we’ll get up. Even though we sit in the dark, the Lord will give us light.

Those children have bodies made out of flesh and blood. So Jesus became human like them in order to die for them. By doing this, he could break the power of the devil. The devil is the one who rules over the kingdom of death.

But David strongly disagreed. He said, “Your father knows very well that you are pleased with me. He has said to himself, ‘I don’t want Jonathan to know I’m planning to kill David. If he finds out, he’ll be very sad.’ But I’m very close to being killed. And that’s just as sure as the Lord and you are alive.”

Someone may chase you and try to kill you. But the Lord your God will keep your life safe like a treasure hidden in a bag. And he’ll destroy your enemies. Their lives will be thrown away, just as a stone is thrown from a sling.
