Those who bring charges against me laugh at me. When they see me, they shake their heads at me.

If you and I changed places, I could say the same things you are saying. I could make fine speeches against you. I could shake my head at you.

They say, “He trusts in the Lord. Let the Lord help him. If the Lord is pleased with him, let him save him.”

So here is the message the Lord has spoken against him. The Lord is telling him, “ ‘ “You will not win the battle over Zion. Its people hate you and make fun of you. The people of Jerusalem lift up their heads proudly as you run away.

Those who passed by shouted at Jesus and made fun of him. They shook their heads and said, “So you are going to destroy the temple and build it again in three days?

Even Christ did not please himself. It is written, “The bad things people have said about you have been aimed at me also.” (Psalm 69:9)

Let us keep looking to Jesus. He is the one who started this journey of faith. And he is the one who completes the journey of faith. He paid no attention to the shame of the cross. He suffered there because of the joy he was looking forward to. Then he sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

So let us go to him outside the camp. Let us be willing to suffer the shame he suffered.
