So the Lord brought the army commanders of the king of Assyria against them. They took Manasseh as a prisoner. They put a hook in his nose. They put him in bronze chains. And they took him to Babylon.

May gloom and total darkness take it back. May a cloud settle over it. May blackness cover it up.

The Egyptians put his feet in chains. They put an iron collar around his neck.

You will open eyes that can’t see. You will set prisoners free. Those who sit in darkness will come out of their cells.

The people who are now living in darkness will see a great light. They are now living in a very dark land. But a light will shine on them.

The people of Jerusalem say, “Don’t laugh when we suffer, you enemies of ours! We have fallen. But we’ll get up. Even though we sit in the dark, the Lord will give us light.

“Then the king told his slaves, ‘Tie up his hands and feet. Throw him outside into the darkness. Out there people will weep and grind their teeth.’

The people who are now living in darkness have seen a great light. They are now living in a very dark land. But a light has shined on them.” (Isaiah 9:1,2)

It will shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death. It will guide our feet on the path of peace.”
