Those who make fun of others stir up a city. But wise people turn anger away.

Strangers will use up all your wealth. Your hard work will make someone else rich.

If you do, you will lose your honor to other people. You will give your self-respect to someone who is mean.

You can’t shovel fire into your lap without burning your clothes.

But this son of yours wasted your money with some prostitutes. Now he comes home. And for him you kill the fattest calf!’

Everyone left in your family line will come and bow down to him. They will beg him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread. They will say, “Please give me a place to serve among the priests. Then I can have food to eat.” ’ ”
