These are the proverbs of Solomon. He was the son of David and the king of Israel.

They provide you with instruction and help you live wisely. They lead to what is right and honest and fair.

A messenger trusted by the one who sends him is like a drink cooled by snow at harvest time. He renews the spirit of his master.

He did his best to find just the right words. And what he wrote was honest and true.

But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. If you believe this, you will have life because you belong to him.

But make sure that in your hearts you honor Christ as Lord. Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about the hope you have. Be ready to give the reason for it. But do it gently and with respect.

I’m writing these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God. I’m writing so you will know that you have eternal life.
