A wise son pays attention to what his father teaches him. But anyone who makes fun of others doesn’t listen to warnings.

Jehoshaphat followed all the ways of his father Asa. He didn’t wander away from them. He did what was right in the sight of the Lord. But the high places weren’t removed. The people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense at them.

These are the proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes his father glad. But a foolish son brings sorrow to his mother.

The way of foolish people seems right to them. But those who are wise listen to advice.

Those who make fun of others look for wisdom and don’t find it. But knowledge comes easily to those who understand what is right.

People who make fun of others don’t like to be corrected. So they stay away from wise people.

A wise son makes his father glad. But a foolish son hates his mother.

A foolish person turns their back on their parent’s correction. But anyone who accepts correction shows understanding.

My sons, listen to me. Pay attention to what I say.

If a person sins against someone else, God can help that sinner. But if anyone sins against the Lord, who can help them?” In spite of what their father Eli said, his sons didn’t pay any attention to his warning. That’s because the Lord had already decided to put them to death.
