Moses reported to all the Israelites what the Lord had said. And they became very sad.

When the people heard these painful words, they began to mourn. No one put on any jewelry.

A person’s own foolish acts destroy their life. But their heart is angry with the Lord.

Lord, when your people were suffering, they came to you. When you punished them, they could barely whisper a prayer.

So tell them, ‘Here is what I am announcing. I am the Lord. You can be sure that I live. And here is what you can be just as sure of. I will do to you the very thing that I heard you say.

Only two of the men who went to check out the land remained alive. One of them was Joshua, the son of Nun. The other was Caleb, the son of Jephunneh.

But those who think they belong in the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness. There they will weep and grind their teeth.”

As you know, after that he wanted to receive his father’s blessing. But he was turned away. With tears he tried to get the blessing. But he couldn’t change what he had done.

That is why the Israelites can’t stand up against their enemies. They turn their backs and run. That’s because I have decided to let them be destroyed. You must destroy the things you took that had been set apart to me. If you do not, I will not be with you anymore.
