He makes the metal bars of your gates stronger. He blesses the people who live inside you.

In days to come, the people of Egypt will become weak. The Lord who rules over all will raise his hand against them. Then they will tremble with fear.

A sword is coming against their prophets. But they are not really prophets at all! So they will look foolish. A sword is coming against their soldiers! They will be filled with terror.

A sword is coming against their horses and chariots! It is coming against all the hired soldiers in their armies. They will become weak. A sword is coming against their treasures! They will be stolen.

Babylon’s soldiers have stopped fighting. They remain in their forts. Their strength is all gone. They have become weak. Their buildings are set on fire. The metal bars that lock their gates are broken.

People of Teman, your soldiers will be terrified. Everyone in Esau’s mountains will be cut down by swords.

The attackers open the gates that hold back the waters of the river. And the palace falls down.

The attackers order that Nineveh’s people be taken away as prisoners. The female slaves sound like doves as they mourn. They beat their chests.

In spite of all your hard work, fire will burn you up inside your city. Your enemies will cut you down with their swords. They will destroy you just as a swarm of locusts eats up crops. Multiply like grasshoppers! Increase your numbers like locusts!
