Then Jesus spoke to his disciples. He said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must say no to themselves. They must pick up their cross and follow me.

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell everything you have. Give the money to those who are poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.”

One day Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee. There he saw two brothers, Simon Peter and his brother Andrew. They were throwing a net into the lake, because they were fishermen.

At once they left their nets and followed him.

But Jesus told him, “Follow me. Let the dead bury their own dead.”

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew. He was sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him. Matthew got up and followed him.

As he walked along he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus. Levi was sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him. Levi got up and followed him.

After this, Jesus left the house. He saw a tax collector sitting at the tax booth. The man’s name was Levi. “Follow me,” Jesus said to him.

He said to another man, “Follow me.” But the man replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.”

Anyone who serves me must follow me. And where I am, my servant will also be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

Jesus answered, “Suppose I want him to remain alive until I return. What does that matter to you? You must follow me.”

In any case, I haven’t caused you any expense. But I’m so tricky! I have caught you by tricking you! Or so you think!
