And the second is like it. ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ (Leviticus 19:18)
“ ‘Do not try to get even. Do not hold anything against any of your people. Instead, love your neighbor as you love yourself. I am the Lord.
Honor your father and mother.’ (Exodus 20:12–16; Deuteronomy 5:16–20) And ‘love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ ” (Leviticus 19:18)
This is the first and most important commandment.
And here is the second one. ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ (Leviticus 19:18) There is no commandment more important than these.”
Pay everything you owe. But you can never pay back all the love you owe one another. Whoever loves other people has done everything the law requires.
Each of us should please our neighbors. Let us do what is good for them in order to build them up.
The whole law is fulfilled by obeying this one command. “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” (Leviticus 19:18)
So when we can do good to everyone, let us do it. Let’s try even harder to do good to the family of believers.
The royal law is found in Scripture. It says, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” (Leviticus 19:18) If you really keep this law, you are doing what is right.
