It was the usual practice at the Passover Feast to let one prisoner go free. The people could choose the one they wanted.

“As you know, the Passover Feast is two days away. The Son of Man will be handed over to be nailed to a cross.”

“But not during the feast,” they said. “The people may stir up trouble.”

A man named Barabbas was in prison. He was there with some other people who had fought against the country’s rulers. They had committed murder while they were fighting against the rulers.

But Peter had to wait outside by the door. The other disciple came back. He was the one the high priest knew. He spoke to the servant woman who was on duty there. Then he brought Peter in.

Finally, Pilate handed Jesus over to them to be nailed to a cross. So the soldiers took charge of Jesus.

Two years passed. Porcius Festus took the place of Felix. But Felix wanted to do the Jews a favor. So he left Paul in prison.

But Festus wanted to do the Jews a favor. So he said to Paul, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem? Are you willing to go on trial there? Are you willing to face these charges in my court?”
