Jesus was teaching in the temple courtyard. He asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?

At that time Jesus spoke to the crowd. “Am I leading a band of armed men against you?” he asked. “Do you have to come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courtyard teaching. And you didn’t arrest me.

As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him. They called out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”

Jesus left that place and went into the area of Judea and across the Jordan River. Again crowds of people came to him. As usual, he taught them.

Jesus and his disciples arrived again in Jerusalem. He was walking in the temple courtyard. Then the chief priests came to him. The teachers of the law and the elders came too.

Every day I was with you. I taught in the temple courtyard, and you didn’t arrest me. But the Scriptures must come true.”

Every day Jesus was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests and the teachers of the law were trying to kill him. So were the leaders among the people.

One day Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courtyard. He was announcing the good news to them. The chief priests and the teachers of the law came up to him. The elders came with them.

Each day Jesus taught at the temple. And each evening he went to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives.

“I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I didn’t say anything in secret.

Doesn’t Scripture say that the Messiah will come from the family line of David? Doesn’t it say that he will come from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?”
