But someone who hasn’t been born yet is better off than the dead or the living. That’s because that person hasn’t seen the evil things that are done on earth.

The people of Samaria must pay for their sins. They have refused to obey me. They will be killed by swords. Their little children will be smashed on the ground. Their pregnant women will be ripped wide open.”

How awful it will be in those days for pregnant women! How awful for nursing mothers!

As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out. She shouted, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.”

Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me. Weep for yourselves and for your children.
