You know what the commandments say. ‘Do not commit adultery. Do not commit murder. Do not steal. Do not be a false witness. Honor your father and mother.’ ” (Exodus 20:12–16; Deuteronomy 5:16–20)

Follow what the Lord taught you and said to you through me. People who don’t speak in keeping with these words will have no hope in the morning.

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good except God.

“I have obeyed all those commandments since I was a boy,” the ruler said.

Here are some commandments to think about. “Do not commit adultery.” “Do not commit murder.” “Do not steal.” “Do not want what belongs to others.” (Exodus 20:13–15,17; Deuteronomy 5:17–19,21) These and all other commands are included in one command. Here’s what it is. “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” (Leviticus 19:18)

So no one will be considered right with God by obeying the law. Instead, the law makes us more aware of our sin.

Scripture says, “Honor your father and mother.” That is the first commandment that has a promise.

Children, obey your parents in everything. That pleases the Lord.
