The Lord saw how bad the sins of everyone on earth had become. They only thought about evil things.

Amaziah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. But he didn’t do it with all his heart.

They are like roaring lions that tear to pieces what they kill. They open their mouths wide to attack me.

Warm words that come from an evil heart are like a shiny coating on a clay pot.

Even though what they say can be charming, don’t believe them. That’s because seven things God hates fill that person’s heart.

Some are pure in their own eyes. But their dirty sins haven’t been washed away.

People of Jerusalem, wash your sins from your hearts and be saved. How long will you hold on to your evil thoughts?

Ezekiel, the princes of the land are like a roaring lion that tears its food apart. They eat people up. They take treasures and other valuable things. They cause many women in the land to become widows.

The officials in the land are like wolves that tear their food apart. They spill blood and kill people to get rich.

Jerusalem’s officials are like roaring lions. Their rulers are like wolves that hunt in the evening. They don’t leave anything to eat in the morning.

Evil thoughts come out of a person’s heart. So do murder, adultery, and other sexual sins. And so do stealing, false witness, and telling lies about others.

“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you pretending to be sheep. But on the inside they are hungry wolves.

Jesus said to them, “You try to make yourselves look good in the eyes of other people. But God knows your hearts. What people think is worth a lot is hated by God.

When the Lord saw her, he felt sorry for her. So he said, “Don’t cry.”

He sent them to the Lord. John told them to ask him, “Are you the one who is supposed to come? Or should we look for someone else?”

He didn’t say this because he cared about the poor. He said it because he was a thief. Judas was in charge of the money bag. He used to help himself to what was in it.

They were having their evening meal. The devil had already tempted Judas, son of Simon Iscariot. He had urged Judas to hand Jesus over to his enemies.

Then Peter said, “Ananias, why did you let Satan fill your heart? He made you lie to the Holy Spirit. You have kept some of the money you received for the land.

I was moving ahead in my Jewish way of life. I went beyond many of my people who were my own age. I held firmly to the teachings passed down by my people.

They will act as if they were serving God. But what they do will show that they have turned their backs on God’s power. Have nothing to do with these people.

To people who are pure, all things are pure. But to those who have twisted minds and don’t believe, nothing is pure. In fact, their minds and their sense of what is right and wrong are twisted.

Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners. Make your hearts pure, you who can’t make up your minds.
