Save me from the mouths of those lions. Save me from the horns of those wild oxen.

Jerusalem’s officials are like roaring lions. Their rulers are like wolves that hunt in the evening. They don’t leave anything to eat in the morning.

“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. So be as wise as snakes and as harmless as doves.

You will be hated by everyone because of me. But anyone who remains strong in the faith will be saved.

“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you pretending to be sheep. But on the inside they are hungry wolves.

Do not take a purse or bag or sandals. And don’t greet anyone on the road.

The hired man is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when the hired man sees the wolf coming, he leaves the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.

Remember what I told you. I said, ‘A slave is not more important than his master.’ (John 13:16) If people hated me and tried to hurt me, they will do the same to you. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.

You will be thrown out of the synagogue. In fact, the time is coming when someone may kill you. And they will think they are doing God a favor.

I know that after I leave, wild wolves will come in among you. They won’t spare any of the sheep.

I will show him how much he must suffer for me.”

He asked the priest for letters to the synagogues in Damascus. He wanted to find men and women who belonged to the Way of Jesus. The letters would allow him to take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.
