Certainly it will be said about Zion, “This nation and that nation were born in it. The Most High God himself will make it secure.”

The Lord who rules over all says, “I will send my messenger. He will prepare my way for me. Then suddenly the Lord you are looking for will come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant will come. He is the one you long for.”

“I will send the prophet Elijah to you. He will come before the day of the Lord arrives. It will be a great and terrifying day.

But love your enemies. Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then you will receive a lot in return. And you will be children of the Most High God. He is kind to people who are evil and are not thankful.

John replied, using the words of Isaiah the prophet. John said, “I’m the messenger who is calling out in the desert, ‘Make the way for the Lord straight.’ ” (Isaiah 40:3)

He is the one who comes after me. I am not good enough to untie his sandals.”

You yourselves are witnesses that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah. I was sent ahead of him.’

She followed Paul and the rest of us around. She shouted, “These men serve the Most High God. They are telling you how to be saved.”
