“ ‘Or suppose the whole community of Israel sins without meaning to. They do something the Lord commands us not to do. Suppose they realize their guilt.

All of them made a firm promise to send their wives away. Each of these men brought a ram from his flock as a guilt offering.

Also keep me from the sins I want to commit. May they not be my master. Then I will be without blame. I will not be guilty of any great sin against your law.

The prince must provide a bull as a sin offering. It will be for him and all the people of the land.

I will go back to my lion’s den. I will stay there until they pay the price for their sin. Then they will turn to me. They will suffer so much that they will really want me to help them.”

The community of Israel must give him two male goats and a ram. The goats are for a sin offering. The ram is for a burnt offering.

Then he must take the bull outside the camp. He must burn it just as he burned the first bull. It is the sin offering for the whole community.

“Suppose someone sins by doing something I command them not to do. Even though they do not know it, they are guilty. They will be held responsible for it.

When they sin in any of these ways and realize their guilt, they must return what they stole. They must give back what they took by cheating their neighbors. They must return what their neighbors placed in their care. They must return the lost property they found.

“ ‘Suppose you as a community fail to keep any of the commands the Lord gave Moses. And suppose you do it without meaning to.

Eat the bread or drink the cup of the Lord in the right way. Don’t do it in a way that isn’t worthy of him. If you do, you will be guilty. You’ll be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.

I used to speak evil things against Jesus. I tried to hurt his followers. I really pushed them around. But God showed me mercy anyway. I did those things without knowing any better. I wasn’t a believer.

Israel has sinned. I made a covenant with them. I commanded them to keep it. But they have broken it. They have taken some of the things that had been set apart to me in a special way to be destroyed. They have stolen. They have lied. They have taken the things they stole and have put them with their own things.
