Judah, you are like a lion’s cub. You return from hunting, my son. Like a lion, you lie down and sleep. You are like a mother lion. Who dares to wake you up?

I said, “I will be careful about how I live. I will not sin by what I say. I will keep my mouth closed when I am near sinful people.”

Don’t be quick to get mixed up in someone else’s fight. That’s like grabbing a stray dog by its ears.

There is a time to tear. And there’s a time to mend. There is a time to be silent. And there’s a time to speak.

Lord, you are Israel’s only hope. Everyone who deserts you will be put to shame. The names of those who turn away from you will be listed among the dead. Lord, they have deserted you. You are the spring of water that gives life.

Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared. They wrote something on the plaster of the palace wall. It happened near the lampstand. The king watched the hand as it wrote.

There are people among you who hate anyone who stands for justice in court. They hate those who tell the truth.

So those who are wise keep quiet in times like these. That’s because the times are evil.

And here is what you can be just as sure of. Not one of these people will see the land I promised to give them. They have seen my glory. They have seen the signs I did in Egypt. And they have seen what I did in the desert. But they did not obey me. And they have tested me ten times.

“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. So be as wise as snakes and as harmless as doves.

Jesus did not say a word. So his disciples came to him. They begged him, “Send her away. She keeps crying out after us.”

The Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus. They asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

Some Pharisees came to test Jesus. They asked, “Does the Law allow a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?”

But Jesus knew their evil plans. He said, “You pretenders! Why are you trying to trap me?

One of them was an authority on the law. So he tested Jesus with a question.

But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I am commanding you in the name of the living God. May he judge you if you don’t tell the truth. Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”

Some Pharisees came to test Jesus. They asked, “Does the Law allow a man to divorce his wife?”

Should we pay or shouldn’t we?” But Jesus knew what they were trying to do. So he asked, “Why are you trying to trap me? Bring me a silver coin. Let me look at it.”

Some Pharisees were trying to find fault with Jesus. They watched him closely. They wanted to see if he would heal the man on the Sabbath day.

The Pharisees came and began to ask Jesus questions. They wanted to test him. So they asked him for a sign from heaven.

One day an authority on the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to receive eternal life?”

Others tested Jesus by asking for a sign from heaven.

At sunrise he arrived again in the temple courtyard. All the people gathered around him there. He sat down to teach them.

We should not test the Messiah, as some of them did. They were killed by snakes.
