I have not come down from heaven to do what I want to do. I have come to do what the one who sent me wants me to do.

The Lord says, “It was my plan to crush him and cause him to suffer. I made his life an offering to pay for sin. But he will see all his children after him. In fact, he will continue to live. My plan will be brought about through him.

Be like the Son of Man. He did not come to be served. Instead, he came to serve others. He came to give his life as the price for setting many people free.”

No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven. He is the Son of Man.

God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world. He sent his Son to save the world through him.

“The one who comes from above is above everything. The one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks like someone from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above everything.

Jesus said, “My food is to do what my Father sent me to do. My food is to finish his work.

Jesus answered, “What I’m about to tell you is true. The Son can do nothing by himself. He can do only what he sees his Father doing. What the Father does, the Son also does.

I can do nothing by myself. I judge only as I hear. And my judging is fair. I do not try to please myself. I try to please the one who sent me.

Jesus answered, “God’s work is to believe in the one he has sent.”

The bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven. He gives life to the world.”

They said, “Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph? Don’t we know his father and mother? How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”

The living Father sent me, and I live because of him. In the same way, those who feed on me will live because of me.

Even Christ did not please himself. It is written, “The bad things people have said about you have been aimed at me also.” (Psalm 69:9)

What does “he went up” mean? It can only mean that he also came down to the lower, earthly places.

Jesus was God’s Son. But by suffering he learned what it means to obey.
