John 20:19

New International Reader's Version

On the evening of that first day of the week, the disciples were together. They had locked the doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Jesus came in and stood among them. He said, “May peace be with you!”

I’m concerned for my family and friends. So I say to Jerusalem, “May you enjoy peace.”

If that home welcomes you, give it your blessing of peace. If it does not, don’t bless it.

Where two or three people gather in my name, I am there with them.”

Later Jesus appeared to the 11 disciples as they were eating. He spoke firmly to them because they had no faith. They would not believe those who had seen him after he rose from the dead.

I leave my peace with you. I give my peace to you. I do not give it to you as the world does. Do not let your hearts be troubled. And do not be afraid.

That’s the way it is with you. Now it’s your time to be sad. But I will see you again. Then you will be full of joy. And no one will take away your joy.

“I have told you these things, so that you can have peace because of me. In this world you will have trouble. But be encouraged! I have won the battle over the world.”

Again Jesus said, “May peace be with you! The Father has sent me. So now I am sending you.”

A week later, Jesus’ disciples were in the house again. Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were locked, Jesus came in and stood among them. He said, “May peace be with you!”

After this, Jesus appeared to his disciples again. It was by the Sea of Galilee. Here is what happened.

This was the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.

But no one would say anything about him openly. They were afraid of the leaders.

After his suffering and death, he appeared to them. In many ways he proved that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of 40 days. During that time he spoke about God’s kingdom.

May the God who gives peace be with you all. Amen.

He appeared to Peter. Then he appeared to the 12 apostles.

Christ himself is our peace. He has made Jews and Gentiles into one group of people. He has destroyed the hatred that was like a wall between us.

May God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give peace to the brothers and sisters. May they also give the believers love and faith.

May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

May the Lord who gives peace give you peace at all times and in every way. May the Lord be with all of you.

Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, the name Melchizedek means “king of what is right.” Also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.”

I, John, am writing this letter. I am sending it to the seven churches in Asia Minor. May grace and peace come to you from God. He is the one who is, and who was, and who will come. May grace and peace come to you from the seven spirits. These spirits are in front of God’s throne.
