So the sisters sent a message to Jesus. “Lord,” they told him, “the one you love is sick.”

Then God said, “Take your son, your only son. He is the one you love. Take Isaac. Go to the place called Moriah. Give your son to me there as a burnt offering. Sacrifice him on the mountain I will show you.”

I say about God’s people who live in our land, “They are the noble ones. I take great delight in them.”

When the Lord saw her, he felt sorry for her. So he said, “Don’t cry.”

A man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village where Mary and her sister Martha lived.

After he said this, Jesus went on speaking to them. “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep,” he said. “But I am going there to wake him up.”

Mary would later pour perfume on the Lord. She would also wipe Jesus’ feet with her hair. It was her brother Lazarus who was sick in bed.

“Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “I wish you had been here! Then my brother would not have died.

Then the Jews said, “See how much he loved him!”

Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

“You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord.’ You are right. That is what I am.

The disciple Jesus loved was next to him at the table.

Erastus stayed in Corinth. I left Trophimus sick in Miletus.

‘I warn and correct those I love. So be sincere, and turn away from your sins.
