“Human beings have only a few days to live. Their lives are full of trouble.

Job continued, “Don’t all human beings have to work hard on this earth? Aren’t their days like the days of hired workers?

We live to be about 70. Or we may live to be 80, if we stay healthy. But even our best days are filled with trouble and sorrow. The years quickly pass, and we are gone.

All things are tiresome. They are more tiresome than anyone can say. But our eyes never see enough of anything. Our ears never hear enough.

What do people get for all their hard work on earth? What do they get for all their worries?

As long as they live, their work is nothing but pain and sorrow. Even at night their minds can’t rest. That doesn’t have any meaning either.

Why did I ever come out of my mother’s body? I’ve seen nothing but trouble and sorrow. My days will end in shame.

You are tempted in the same way all other human beings are. God is faithful. He will not let you be tempted any more than you can take. But when you are tempted, God will give you a way out. Then you will be able to deal with it.
