Then King Rehoboam asked the elders for advice. They had served his father Solomon while he was still living. Rehoboam asked them, “What advice can you give me? How should I answer these people?”

Old people are wise. Those who live a long time have understanding.

People who are old and gray are on our side. And they are even older than your parents!

Older people aren’t the only ones who are wise. They aren’t the only ones who understand what is right.

I understand more than the elders do, because I obey your rules.

Gray hair is a glorious crown. You get it by living the right way.

By this time you should be teachers. But in fact, you need someone to teach you all over again. You need even the simple truths of God’s word. You need milk, not solid food.
