The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones. He made cedar wood as common there as sycamore-fig trees in the western hills.

He looks down on proud leaders. He takes away the strength of those who are mighty.

Then the Mighty One himself will be your gold. He’ll be like the finest silver to you.

Why wasn’t I buried like a baby who was born dead? Why wasn’t I buried like a child who never saw the light of day?

While they lived, they believed they were blessed. People praised them when things were going well for them.

Their land is full of silver and gold. There is no end to their treasures. Their land is full of horses. There is no end to their chariots.

Their silver and gold won’t save them on the day the Lord pours out his anger. The whole earth will be burned up when his jealous anger blazes out. Everyone who lives on earth will come to a sudden end.”

Tyre’s people have built a fort for themselves. They’ve piled up silver like dust. They have as much gold as the dirt in the streets.

But Balaam gave them his answer. He said, “Balak could give me all the silver and gold in his palace. Even then, I still couldn’t do anything at all that goes beyond what the Lord my God commands.
