God is angry with me. He attacks me and tears me up. He grinds his teeth at me. He stares at me as if he were my enemy.

Why do you turn your face away from me? Why do you think of me as your enemy?

You put my feet in chains. You watch every step I take. You do it by putting marks on the bottom of my feet.

Your anger is tearing you to pieces. Does the earth have to be deserted just to prove you are right? Must all the rocks be moved from their places?

His anger burns against me. He thinks I’m one of his enemies.

You do mean things to me. You attack me with your mighty power.

But God has found fault with me. He thinks I’m his enemy.

The Mighty One has shot me with his arrows. I have to drink their poison. God’s terrors are aimed at me.

Like ungodly people, they were mean and made fun of me. They ground their teeth at me in hate.

Sinful people make plans to harm those who do what is right. They grind their teeth at them.

“You who forget God, think about this. If you don’t, I will tear you to pieces. No one will be able to save you.

All your enemies open their mouths wide against you. They laugh at you and grind their teeth. They say, “We have swallowed up Jerusalem’s people. This is the day we’ve waited for. And we’ve lived to see it.”

He has been like a bear waiting to attack me. He has been like a lion hiding in the bushes.

I will be like a lion to Ephraim. I will attack Judah like a powerful lion. I will tear them to pieces. I will drag them off. Then I will leave them. No one will be able to save them.

The people say, “Come. Let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces. But he will heal us. He has wounded us. But he’ll bandage our wounds.

The people of Jerusalem say, “Don’t laugh when we suffer, you enemies of ours! We have fallen. But we’ll get up. Even though we sit in the dark, the Lord will give us light.

When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they became very angry. They were so angry they ground their teeth at Stephen.
