You were like a wife who was deserted. And her heart was broken. You were like a wife who married young. And her husband sent her away. But now I am calling you to come back,” says your God.

May your fountain be blessed. May the wife you married when you were young make you happy.

You love your wife. So enjoy life with her. Do it all the days of this meaningless life God has given you on earth. That’s what he made you for. That’s what you get for all your hard work on earth.

People will not call you Deserted anymore. They will no longer name your land Empty. Instead, you will be called One the Lord Delights In. Your land will be named Married One. That’s because the Lord will take delight in you. And your land will be married.

But I will make you healthy again. I will heal your wounds,” announces the Lord. “That’s because you have been thrown out. You are called Zion, the one no one cares about.”

I will make Israel my own. She will belong to me forever. I will do to her what is right and fair. I will love her tenderly.

You ask, “Why?” It’s because the Lord is holding you responsible. He watches how you treat the wife you married when you were young. You have been unfaithful to her. You did it even though she’s your partner. You promised to stay married to her. And the Lord was a witness to it.

“Come to me, all you who are tired and are carrying heavy loads. I will give you rest.

But God comforts those who are sad. He comforted us when Titus came.
