The horseman rode out to where Jehu was. He said, “The king asks, ‘Are you coming in peace?’ ” “What do you know about peace?” Jehu answered. “Get in line behind me.” The lookout reported, “The messenger has reached them. But he isn’t coming back.”

So the king sent out a second horseman. When he came to them, he said, “The king asks, ‘Are you coming in peace?’ ” Jehu replied, “What do you know about peace? Get in line behind me.”

People who live on the islands, listen to me. Pay attention, you nations far away. Before I was born the Lord chose me to serve him. Before I was born the Lord spoke my name.

But those who are evil are like the rolling sea. It never rests. Its waves toss up mud and sand.

“There is no peace for those who are evil,” says my God.

“When they go out of Jerusalem, they will see the dead bodies of those who refused to obey me. The worms that eat their bodies will not die. The fire that burns them will not be put out. It will make everyone sick just to look at them.”

He said, “I wish you had known today what would bring you peace! But now it is hidden from your eyes.

They do not know how to live in peace.” (Isaiah 59:7,8)
