People of Tarshish, farm your land as they do along the Nile River. That’s because you don’t have a harbor anymore.

He looks down on proud leaders. He takes away the strength of those who are mighty.

God gives me strength for the battle. He keeps my way secure.

So will the plants along the banks of the Nile. Even the planted fields along the Nile will dry up. Everything that grows there will blow away and disappear.

The Lord has reached his powerful hand out over the sea. He has made its kingdoms tremble with fear. He has given a command concerning Phoenicia. He has ordered that its forts be destroyed.

Men in the ships of Tarshish, cry out! Mighty Tyre is destroyed!

The Lord who rules over all planned to do it. He wanted to bring down all its pride and glory. He wanted to shame those who were honored all over the earth.

The city of Zion used to be full of glory. But now her glory has faded away. Her princes are like deer. They can’t find anything to eat. They are almost too weak to get away from those who hunt them down.

The lands along the coast trembled with fear when you fell. The islands in the sea were terrified when you were destroyed.’ ”

I will throw down royal thrones. I will smash the power of other kingdoms. I will destroy chariots and their drivers. Horses and their riders will fall. They will be killed by the swords of their relatives.

At just the right time Christ died for ungodly people. He died for us when we had no power of our own.
