The Lord was very sad that he had made human beings on the earth. His heart was filled with pain.

He hasn’t done that for any other nation. They don’t know his laws. Praise the Lord.

Then your ways will be known on earth. All nations will see that you have the power to save.

How often they refused to obey him in the desert! How often they caused him sorrow in that dry and empty land!

They would not be like their people who lived long ago. Those people were stubborn. They refused to obey God. They turned away from him. Their spirits were not faithful to him.

For 40 years I was angry with them. I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray. They do not know how I want them to live.’

Israel’s leaders are drunk from wine. They can’t walk straight. They are drunk from beer. They are unsteady on their feet. Priests and prophets drink beer. They can’t walk straight. They are mixed up from drinking too much wine. They drink too much beer. They are unsteady on their feet. The prophets see visions but don’t really understand them. The priests aren’t able to make good decisions.

But they refused to obey him. They made his Holy Spirit sad. So he turned against them and became their enemy. He himself fought against them.

The Lord says, “My people are foolish. They do not know me. They are children who do not have any sense. They have no understanding at all. They are skilled in doing what is evil. They do not know how to do what is good.”

My people ask a wooden statue of a god for advice. They get answers from a stick of wood. They are as unfaithful as prostitutes. They are not faithful to their God.

The other ten disciples heard about this. They became angry at the two brothers.

Jesus looked around at them in anger. He was very upset because their hearts were stubborn. Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand had become as good as new.

But because I tell the truth, you don’t believe me!

They didn’t think it was important to know God. So God let them continue to have evil thoughts. They did things they shouldn’t do.

Someone might argue, “When I lie, it becomes clearer that God is truthful. It makes his glory shine more brightly. Why then does he find me guilty of sin?”

Do not make God’s Holy Spirit mourn. The Holy Spirit is the proof that you belong to God. And the Spirit is the proof that God will set you completely free.

Brothers and sisters, make sure that none of you has a sinful heart. Do not let an unbelieving heart turn you away from the living God.

Then they got rid of the false gods that were among them. They served the Lord. And he couldn’t stand to see Israel suffer anymore.
