Jacob was very worried and afraid. So he separated the people with him into two groups. He also separated the flocks and herds and camels.

Please save me from the hand of my brother Esau. I’m afraid he’ll come and attack me and the mothers with their children.

Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau. Esau lived in the land of Seir. It was also called the country of Edom.

He thought, “Esau might come and attack one group. If he does, the group that’s left can escape.”

Jacob looked and saw Esau coming with his 400 men! So Jacob separated the children. He put them with Leah, Rachel and the two female servants.

Come, let’s go up to Bethel. There I’ll build an altar to honor God. He answered me when I was in trouble. He’s been with me everywhere I’ve gone.”

Then they cried out to the Lord because of their problems. And he saved them from their troubles.

Good things will come to those who are willing to lend freely. Good things will come to those who are fair in everything they do.

Look and see that no one is on my right side to help me. No one is concerned about me. I have no place of safety. No one cares whether I live or die.

I hear many people whispering, “There is terror all around him!” Many have joined together against me. They plan to kill me.

From a place far away I call out to you. I call out as my heart gets weaker. Lead me to the safety of a rock that is high above me.

As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked back. There were the Egyptians marching after them! The Israelites were terrified. They cried out to the Lord.

Good sense will keep you safe. Understanding will guard you.

His God directs him. He teaches him the right way to do his work.

“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. So be as wise as snakes and as harmless as doves.

He replied, “Your faith is so small! Why are you so afraid?” Then Jesus got up and ordered the winds and the waves to stop. It became completely calm.

“I have told you these things, so that you can have peace because of me. In this world you will have trouble. But be encouraged! I have won the battle over the world.”

There they helped the believers gain strength. They told them to remain faithful to what they had been taught. “We must go through many hard times to enter God’s kingdom,” they said.

He comforts us in all our troubles. Now we can comfort others when they are in trouble. We ourselves receive comfort from God.

In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be treated badly.
