So God has taken away your father’s livestock and given them to me.
So they mated in front of the branches. And the flocks gave birth to striped, speckled or spotted little ones.
Jacob heard what Laban’s sons were saying. “Jacob has taken everything our father owned,” they said. “He has gained all this wealth from what belonged to our father.”
“Once during the mating season I had a dream. In my dream I looked and saw male goats mating with the flock. The goats had stripes, speckles or spots.
All the wealth God took away from our father really belongs to us and our children. So do what God has told you to do.”
He chose 200 female goats and 20 male goats. He chose 200 female sheep and 20 male sheep.
Every animal in the forest already belongs to me. And so do the cattle on a thousand hills.
A good person leaves what they own to their children and grandchildren. But a sinner’s wealth is stored up for those who do right.
Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Do you feel cheated because I gave so freely to the others?’
