Rachel said to her father, “I’m sorry, sir. I can’t get up for you right now. But don’t be angry with me. I’m having my monthly period.” So he searched everywhere but couldn’t find the statues of his gods.

Laban had gone to clip the wool from his sheep. While he was gone, Rachel stole the statues of the family gods that belonged to her father.

Rachel was the one who had taken the statues of Laban’s family gods. She had put them inside her camel’s saddle. She was sitting on them. Laban searched the whole tent. But he didn’t find anything.

Jacob was very angry with Laban. “What is my crime?” he asked. “What have I done to you that you hunt me down like this?

So Bathsheba went to King Solomon. She went to him to speak for Adonijah. The king stood up to greet her. He bowed down to her. Then he sat down on his throne. He had a throne brought for his mother. She sat down at his right side.

“Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long time in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

“ ‘Suppose a woman is having her regular monthly period. Then for seven days she will be “unclean.” Anyone who touches her will be “unclean” until evening.

“ ‘All of you must have respect for your mother and father. You must always keep my Sabbath days. I am the Lord your God.

“ ‘Stand up in order to show your respect for old people. Also have respect for me. I am the Lord your God.

Children, obey your parents as believers in the Lord. Obey them because it’s the right thing to do.

Slaves, obey your masters out of deep respect for God. Obey not only those who are good and kind. Obey also those who are not kind.

Sarah was like that. She obeyed Abraham. She called him her master. Do you want to be like her? Then do what is right. And don’t give in to fear.
