Jacob slept with Rachel also. He loved Rachel more than he loved Leah. And he worked for Laban for another seven years.

Leah was plain, but Rachel was beautiful. She had a nice figure.

Jacob was in love with Rachel. He said to Laban, “I’ll work for you for seven years so I can marry your younger daughter Rachel.”

So Jacob worked for seven years so he could marry Rachel. But they seemed like only a few days to him because he loved her so much.

Laban gave his female servant Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her servant.

The Lord saw that Jacob didn’t love Leah as much as he loved Rachel. So he let Leah have children. But Rachel wasn’t able to have children.

Doesn’t our father think of us as outsiders? First he sold us. Now he has used up what he was paid for us.

That’s what it was like for the 20 years I was living with you. I worked for 14 years to marry your two daughters. I worked for six years to get my share of your flocks. You changed my pay ten times.

We answered, ‘We have an old father. A young son was born to him when he was old. His brother is dead. He’s the only one of his mother’s sons left. And his father loves him.’

“Your servant my father said to us, ‘You know that my wife had two sons by me.

Jacob ran away to the country of Aram. There Israel served Laban to get a wife. He took care of sheep to pay for her.

“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. Anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

“No one can serve two masters at the same time. You will hate one of them and love the other. Or you will be faithful to one and dislike the other. You can’t serve God and money at the same time.

“Anyone who comes to me must hate their father and mother. They must hate their wife and children. They must hate their brothers and sisters. And they must hate even their own life. Unless they do this, they can’t be my disciple.

Anyone who loves their life will lose it. But anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it and have eternal life.

Suppose a man has two wives. He loves one but not the other. And both of them have sons by him. But the oldest son is the son of the wife the man doesn’t love.
