Then the Lord God formed a man. He made him out of the dust of the ground. God breathed the breath of life into him. And the man became a living person.

So God created human beings in his own likeness. He created them to be like himself. He created them as male and female.

But streams came from the earth. They watered the entire surface of the ground.

You will have to work hard and sweat a lot to produce the food you eat. You were made out of the ground. You will return to it when you die. You are dust, and you will return to dust.”

So the Lord God drove the man out of the Garden of Eden. He sent the man to farm the ground he had been made from.

Every breathing thing on dry land died.

As long as I have life and God gives me breath,

The Spirit of God has made me. The breath of the Mighty One gives me life.

To God I’m just the same as you. I too am a piece of clay.

So he’ll certainly find fault with human beings. After all, they are made out of dust. They can be crushed more easily than a moth.

Know that the Lord is God. He made us, and we belong to him. We are his people. We are the sheep belonging to his flock.

He knows what we are made of. He remembers that we are dust.

The spirit of a person is the lamp of the Lord. It lights up what is deep down inside them.

Remember your Creator before you return to the dust you came from. Remember him before your spirit goes back to God who gave it.

There is a time to tear. And there’s a time to mend. There is a time to be silent. And there’s a time to speak.

Stop trusting in mere human beings, who can’t help you. They only live for a little while. What good are they?

Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay. You are the potter. Your hands made all of us.

Zedekiah, the Lord’s anointed king, was our last hope. But he was caught in their traps. We thought he would keep us safe. We expected to continue living among the nations.

The Lord and King speaks to you. He says, “I will put breath in you. Then you will come to life again.

I will attach tendons to you. I will put flesh on you. I will cover you with skin. So I will put breath in you. And you will come to life again. Then you will know that I am the Lord.” ’ ”

This is a prophecy. It is the Lord’s message about Israel. The Lord spreads out the heavens. He lays the foundation of the earth. He creates the human spirit within a person. He says,

But Moses and Aaron fell with their faces to the ground. They cried out, “God, you are the God who gives life and breath to all living things. Will you be angry with the whole community when only one man sins?”

“Lord, you are the God who gives life and breath to all living things. Please put someone in charge of this community.

He then breathed on them. He said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

He is not served by human hands. He doesn’t need anything. Instead, he himself gives life and breath to all people. He also gives them everything else they have.

But you are a mere human being. So who are you to talk back to God? Scripture says, “Can what is made say to the one who made it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’ ” (Isaiah 29:16; 45:9)

It is written, “The first man Adam became a living person.” (Genesis 2:7) The last Adam became a spirit that gives life.

The first man came from the dust of the earth. The second man came from heaven.

Treasure is kept in clay jars. In the same way, we have the treasure of the good news in these earthly bodies of ours. That shows that the mighty power of the good news comes from God. It doesn’t come from us.

We know that the earthly tent we live in will be destroyed. But we have a building made by God. It is a house in heaven that lasts forever. Human hands did not build it.

That’s because Adam was made first. Then Eve was made.

Besides, we have all had human fathers who trained us. We respected them for it. How much more should we be trained by the Father of spirits and live!
