Carry one another’s heavy loads. If you do, you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Joab said, “Suppose the Arameans are too strong for me. Then you must come and help me. But suppose the Ammonites are too strong for you. Then I’ll come and help you.

Suppose you see that the donkey of someone who hates you has fallen down under its load. Then do not leave it there. Be sure you help them with it.

“Here is the way I want you to fast. “Set free those who are held by chains without any reason. Untie the ropes that hold people as slaves. Set free those who are crushed. Break every evil chain.

This happened so that what Isaiah the prophet had said would come true. He had said, “He suffered the things we should have suffered. He took on himself the sicknesses that should have been ours.” (Isaiah 53:4)

Jesus replied, “How terrible for you authorities on the law! You put such heavy loads on people that they can hardly carry them. But you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them.

“I give you a new command. Love one another. You must love one another, just as I have loved you.

Here is my command. Love one another, just as I have loved you.

We who have strong faith should help the weak with their problems. We should not please only ourselves.

Because of what Christ Jesus has done, you are free. You are now controlled by the law of the Holy Spirit who gives you life. The law of the Spirit frees you from the law of sin that brings death.

To those who don’t have the law I became like one who doesn’t have the law. I did this even though I am not free from God’s law. I am under Christ’s law. Now I can win those who don’t have the law.

Each person should carry their own load.

But I can’t handle your problems and troubles all by myself. I can’t settle your arguments.

Brothers and sisters, we are asking you to warn certain people. These people don’t want to work. Instead, they make trouble. We are also asking you to encourage those who have lost hope. Help those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.

But suppose someone takes a good look at the perfect law that gives freedom. And they keep looking at it. Suppose they don’t forget what they’ve heard, but they do what the law says. Then this person will be blessed in what they do.

Speak and act like people who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom.

The royal law is found in Scripture. It says, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” (Leviticus 19:18) If you really keep this law, you are doing what is right.

“He himself carried our sins” in his body on the cross. (Isaiah 53:5) He did it so that we would die as far as sins are concerned. Then we would lead godly lives. “His wounds have healed you.” (Isaiah 53:5)

Suppose they had not known the way of godliness. This would have been better than to know godliness and then turn away from it. The way of godliness is the sacred command passed on to them.

I want you to remember the words the holy prophets spoke in the past. Remember the command our Lord and Savior gave through your apostles.

Here is the command God has given us. Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
