I make my appeal to you, brothers and sisters. I’m asking you to become like me. After all, I became like you. You didn’t do anything wrong to me.

We’ll agree, but only on one condition. You will have to become like us. You will have to circumcise all your males.

So Ahab asked Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to fight against Ramoth Gilead?” Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, “Yes. I’ll go with you. My men will go with you. My horses will also go with you.”

They have been told that you teach Jews to turn away from the Law of Moses. You teach this to the Jews who live among the Gentiles. They think that you teach those Jews not to circumcise their children. They think that you teach them to give up our Jewish ways.

Suppose someone has made us sad. In some ways, he hasn’t made me sad so much as he has made all of you sad. But I don’t want to put this too strongly.

Believers at Corinth, we have spoken freely to you. We have opened our hearts wide to you.

I speak to you as if you were my children. It is only fair that you open your hearts wide to us also.

I saw what they were doing. It was not in line with the truth of the good news. So I spoke to Peter in front of them all. “You are a Jew,” I said. “But you live like one who is not. So why do you force Gentiles to follow Jewish ways?”

I am afraid for you. I am afraid that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.

Remember when I first preached the good news to you? Remember I did that because I was sick.

I never want to brag about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Through that cross the ways of the world have been crucified as far as I am concerned. And I have been crucified as far as the ways of the world are concerned.

Brothers and sisters, may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
