Moses used to take a tent and set it up far outside the camp. He called it the “tent of meeting.” Anyone who wanted to ask the Lord a question would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp.

For three years in a row there wasn’t enough food in the land. That was while David was king. So David asked the Lord why he wasn’t blessing his people. The Lord said, “It is because Saul and his family committed murder. He put the people of Gibeon to death.”

Lord, why are you so far away? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

My heart says, “Seek him!” Lord, I will seek you.

Lord, you have seen this. Don’t be silent. Lord, don’t be far away from me.

Then Moses’ father-in-law Jethro brought a burnt offering and other sacrifices to God. Aaron came with all the elders of Israel. They ate a meal with Moses’ father-in-law in the sight of God.

So Moses went out to meet his father-in-law. Moses bowed down and kissed him. They greeted each other. Then they went into the tent.

So the people took off their jewelry at Mount Horeb.

When Moses would go out to the tent, everyone would get up and stand at the entrances to their tents. They would watch Moses until he entered the tent.

The Lord is far away from those who do wrong. But he hears the prayers of those who do right.

But your sins have separated you from your God. They have caused him to turn his face away from you. So he won’t listen to you.

But suppose they do have children. Then I will kill every one of them. How terrible it will be for them when I turn away from them!

Perhaps while you are there, you will seek the Lord your God. You will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.

He serves in the sacred tent. The Lord set up the true holy tent. A mere human being did not set it up.
