The Lord came down to the top of Mount Sinai. He told Moses to come to the top of the mountain. So Moses went up.

Moses approached the thick darkness where God was. But the people remained a long way off.

The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain. Stay here. I will give you the stone tablets. They contain the law and commandments I have written to teach the people.”

Then Moses and Joshua, his helper, started out. Moses went up on the mountain of God.

God said, “I will be with you. I will give you a sign. It will prove that I have sent you. When you have brought the people out of Egypt, all of you will worship me on this mountain.”

The Lord saw that Moses had gone over to look. So God spoke to him from inside the bush. He called out, “Moses! Moses!” “Here I am,” Moses said.

Be ready in the morning. Then come up on Mount Sinai. Meet with me there on top of the mountain.

So Moses carved out two stone tablets just like the first ones. Early in the morning he went up Mount Sinai. He carried the two stone tablets in his hands. He did as the Lord had commanded him to do.

The Lord called out to Moses. He spoke to him from the tent of meeting. He said,

Moses was with the Israelites in the desert. He was with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai. Moses was with our people of long ago. He received living words to pass on to us.
