Smoke covered Mount Sinai, because the Lord came down on it in fire. The smoke rose up from it like smoke from a furnace. The whole mountain trembled and shook.

But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building.

The sun set and it became dark. Then a burning torch and a pot filled with smoking coals appeared. They passed between the pieces of the animals that had been cut in two.

He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and the whole valley. He saw thick smoke rising from the land. It looked like smoke from a furnace.

“You came down on Mount Sinai. From heaven you spoke to our people. You gave them rules and laws. Those laws are right and fair. You gave them orders and commands that are good.

When he looks at the earth, it trembles. When he touches the mountains, they pour out smoke.

The mountains leaped like rams. The hills skipped like lambs.

Earth, tremble with fear when the Lord comes. Tremble when the God of Jacob is near.

Lord, open up your heavens and come down. Touch the mountains, and they will pour out smoke.

He opened the heavens and came down. Dark clouds were under his feet.

God, you gave us plenty of rain. You renewed your worn-out land.

Your thunder was heard in the windstorm. Your lightning lit up the world. The earth trembled and shook.

Your path led through the Red Sea. You walked through the mighty waters. But your footprints were not seen.

Do not lay a hand on any of them. Kill them with stones or shoot them with arrows. Whether they are people or animals, do not let them live.’ They may go near the mountain only when the ram’s horn gives out a long blast.”

Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God. They stood at the foot of the mountain.

The people saw the thunder and lightning. They heard the trumpet. They saw the mountain covered with smoke. They trembled with fear and stayed a long way off.

The people of Israel saw the glory of the Lord. It looked like a fire burning on top of the mountain.

There the angel of the Lord appeared to him from inside a burning bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire. But it didn’t burn up.

Be ready in the morning. Then come up on Mount Sinai. Meet with me there on top of the mountain.

The sound of their voices caused the stone doorframe to shake. The temple was filled with smoke.

I wish you would open up your heavens and come down to us! I wish the mountains would tremble when you show your power!

I looked at the mountains. They were shaking. All the hills were swaying.

When he stood up, the earth shook. When he looked at the nations, they trembled with fear. The age-old mountains crumbled. The ancient hills fell down. But he marches on forever.

The people will run away through that mountain valley. It will reach all the way to Azel. They’ll run away just as they ran from the earthquake when Uzziah was king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come. All the holy ones will come with him.

Nation will fight against nation. Kingdom will fight against kingdom. People will go hungry. There will be earthquakes in many places.

He said, “The Lord came from Mount Sinai. Like the rising sun, he shone on his people from Mount Seir. He shone on them from Mount Paran. He came with large numbers of angels. He came from his mountain slopes in the south.

From heaven he made you hear his voice. He wanted to teach you. On earth he showed you his great fire. You heard his words coming out of the fire.

These are the commandments the Lord announced in a loud voice to your whole community. He gave them to you there on the mountain. He spoke out of the fire, cloud and deep darkness. He didn’t add anything else. Then he wrote the commandments on two stone tablets. And he gave them to me.

The Lord spoke to you face to face. His voice came out of the fire on the mountain.

He will help you who are troubled. And he will also help us. All these things will happen when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come in blazing fire. He will come with his powerful angels.

He will punish those who don’t know God. He will punish those who don’t obey the good news about our Lord Jesus.

You haven’t come to a mountain that can be touched. You haven’t come to a mountain burning with fire. You haven’t come to darkness, gloom and storm.

At that time his voice shook the earth. But now he has promised, “Once more I will shake the earth. I will also shake the heavens.” (Haggai 2:6)

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar. Fire will destroy everything in them. God will judge the earth and everything done in it.

The temple was filled with smoke that came from the glory and power of God. No one could enter the temple at that time. They had to wait until the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed.

The star opened the Abyss. Then smoke rose up from it like the smoke from a huge furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss.

The mountains shook because of the Lord. He was at Mount Sinai. They shook because of the Lord. He is the God of Israel.
