Ephesians 4:31

Get rid of all hard feelings, anger and rage. Stop all fighting and lying. Don’t have anything to do with any kind of hatred.

Esau was angry with Jacob. He was angry because of the blessing his father had given to Jacob. He said to himself, “The days of sorrow over my father’s death are near. Then I’ll kill my brother Jacob.”

Reuben heard them talking. He tried to save Joseph from them. “Let’s not take his life,” he said.

Joseph’s brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them. So they hated Joseph. They couldn’t even speak one kind word to him.

Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” So they went out. There Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

And Absalom never said a word of any kind to Amnon. He hated Amnon because he had brought shame on his sister Tamar.

He has told you lies about me. King David, you are like an angel of God. So do what you wish.

Then the men of Israel answered the men of Judah. They said, “We have ten of the 12 tribes in the kingdom. So we have a stronger claim on David than you have. Why then are you acting as if you hate us? Weren’t we the first ones to talk about bringing back our king?” But the men of Judah argued their side even more forcefully than the men of Israel.

I will get rid of anyone who tells lies about their neighbor in secret. I won’t put up with anyone whose eyes and heart are proud.

Don’t let people who lie about me be secure in the land. May trouble hunt down those who want to hurt me.

They don’t tell lies about other people. They don’t do wrong to their neighbors. They don’t say anything bad about them.

Turn away from anger and don’t give in to wrath. Don’t be upset, because that only leads to evil.

You are a witness against your brother. You always tell lies about your own mother’s son.

They make their tongues like sharp swords. They aim their mean words like deadly arrows.

Hate stirs up fights. But love erases all sins by forgiving them.

Anyone who hides hatred with lying lips and spreads lies is foolish.

Anyone who gets angry quickly does foolish things. And a person who is tricky is hated.

The words of anyone who talks about others are like tasty bites of food. They go deep down inside you.

A king’s anger is like a lion’s roar. But his favor is like dew on the grass.

Like a north wind that brings rain you didn’t expect is a crafty tongue that brings looks of shock.

If you don’t have wood, your fire goes out. If you don’t talk about others, arguing dies down.

An angry person stirs up fights. And a person with a bad temper commits many sins.

Suppose a wise person goes to court with a foolish person. Then the foolish person gets mad and pokes fun, and there is no peace.

He hates any witness who pours out lies and anyone who stirs up conflict in the community.

Don’t become angry quickly. Anger lives in the hearts of foolish people.

All of them are used to disobeying me. They go around telling lies about others. They are like bronze mixed with iron. All of them do very sinful things.

Be on guard against your friends. Do not trust the members of your own family. Every one of them cheats. Every friend tells lies.

The whole city was stirred up. People came running from all directions. They grabbed Paul and dragged him out of the temple. Right away the temple gates were shut.

“Their mouths are full of curses and bitterness.” (Psalm 10:7)

Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. Be like babies as far as evil is concerned. But be grown up in your thinking.

So let us keep the Feast, but not with the old bread made with yeast. The yeast I’m talking about is hatred and evil. Let us keep the Feast with bread made without yeast. Let us keep it with bread that is honesty and truth.

I’m afraid that when I come I won’t find you as I want you to be. I’m afraid that you won’t find me as you want me to be. I’m afraid there will be arguing, jealousy and fits of anger. I’m afraid each of you will focus only on getting ahead. Then you will tell lies about each other. You will talk about each other. I’m afraid you will be proud and cause trouble.

It includes worshiping statues of gods and worshiping evil powers. It also includes hatred and fighting, jealousy and fits of anger. Sinful desire is interested only in getting ahead. It stirs up trouble. It separates people into their own little groups.

You were taught not to live the way you used to. You must get rid of your old way of life. That’s because it has been made impure by the desire for things that lead you astray.

So each of you must get rid of your lying. Speak the truth to your neighbor. We are all parts of one body.

Scripture says, “When you are angry, do not sin.” (Psalm 4:4) Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.

Husbands, love your wives. Don’t be mean to them.

But now here are the kinds of things you must also get rid of. You must get rid of anger, rage, hate and lies. Let no dirty words come out of your mouths.

In the same way, the women must be worthy of respect. They must not say things that harm others. In anything they do, they must not go too far. They must be worthy of trust in everything.

He must not get drunk. He must not push people around. He must be gentle. He must not be a person who likes to argue. He must not love money.

Besides, they get into the habit of having nothing to do. They go around from house to house. They waste their time. They also bother other people and say things that make no sense. They shouldn’t say those things.

Don’t have anything to do with arguing. It is dumb and foolish. You know it only leads to fights.

They won’t love others. They won’t forgive others. They will tell lies about people. They will be out of control. They will be wild. They will hate what is good.

A church leader takes care of God’s family. That’s why he must be without blame. He must not look after only his own interests. He must not get angry easily. He must not get drunk. He must not push people around. He must not try to get money by cheating people.

In the same way, teach the older women to lead a holy life. They must not tell lies about others. They must not let wine control them. Instead, they must teach what is good.

My dear brothers and sisters, pay attention to what I say. Everyone should be quick to listen. But they should be slow to speak. They should be slow to get angry.

But suppose your hearts are jealous and bitter. Suppose you are concerned only about getting ahead. Then don’t brag about it. And don’t say no to the truth.

My brothers and sisters, don’t speak against one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister speaks against the law. And anyone who judges another believer judges the law. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it. Instead, you are acting as if you were its judge.

So get rid of every kind of evil, and stop telling lies. Don’t pretend to be something you are not. Stop wanting what others have, and don’t speak against one another.

Don’t be like Cain. He belonged to the evil one. He murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because the things Cain had done were wrong. But the things his brother had done were right.

Anyone who hates their brother or sister is a murderer. And you know that no murderer has eternal life.

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven. It said, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God have come. The authority of his Messiah has come. Satan, who brings charges against our brothers and sisters, has been thrown down. He brings charges against them in front of our God day and night.
