Anyone who hates what they are taught will pay for it later. But a person who respects a command will be rewarded.

Those who turn away from their training become poor and ashamed. But those who accept warnings are honored.

A person who understands what is right learns more from just a warning than a foolish person learns from 100 strokes with a whip.

Wounds from a friend can be trusted. But an enemy kisses you many times.

The sayings of those who are wise move people to take action. Their collected sayings are like nails pounded in firm and deep. These sayings are given to us by one shepherd.

Those who are wise are found where there is sorrow. But foolish people are found where there is pleasure.

People should listen to the quiet words of those who are wise. That’s better than paying attention to the shouts of a ruler of foolish people.
