Sometimes a Levite will move from the town in Israel where he’s living. And he will come to the place the Lord will choose. He’ll do it because he really wants to.

Lord, I love the house where you live. I love the place where your glory is.

I’m asking the Lord for only one thing. Here is what I want. I want to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. I want to look at the beauty of the Lord. I want to worship him in his temple.

A single day in your courtyards is better than a thousand anywhere else. I would rather guard the door of the house of my God than live in the tents of sinful people.

Blessed are those whose strength comes from you. They have firmly decided to travel to your temple.

Outside each town, the east side will measure 3,000 feet. So will the south side, the west side and the north side. The town must be in the center. And the Levites will own the grasslands around each town.

The Lord your God will choose a special place. He will put his Name there. That’s where you must bring everything I command you to bring. That includes your burnt offerings and sacrifices. It includes your special gifts and a tenth of everything you produce. It also includes all the things of value that you promised to give to the Lord.

Offer them only at the place the Lord will choose in one of your tribes. There you must obey everything I command you.

Instead, go to the special place he will choose from among all your tribes. He will put his Name there. That’s where you must go.

Sacrifice an animal from your flock or herd. It is the Passover sacrifice to honor the Lord your God. Sacrifice it at the special place the Lord will choose. He will put his Name there.

Then he can serve in the name of the Lord his God. He’ll be like all the other Levites who serve the Lord there.

Here is a saying you can trust. If anyone wants to be a leader in the church, they want to do a good work for God and people.

Be shepherds of God’s flock, the believers under your care. Watch over them, though not because you have to. Instead, do it because you want to. That’s what God wants you to do. Don’t do it because you want to get money in dishonest ways. Do it because you really want to serve.
