Her husband Joseph was faithful to the law. But he did not want to put her to shame in public. So he planned to divorce her quietly.

“Brothers will hand over brothers to be killed. Fathers will hand over their children. Children will rise up against their parents and have them put to death.

It is enough for students to be like their teachers. And it is enough for slaves to be like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, what can the others who live there expect?

“Then people will hand you over to be treated badly and killed. All nations will hate you because of me.

The teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to arrest Jesus at once. They knew he had told that story against them. But they were afraid of the people.

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were very angry. They began to talk to one another about what they might do to Jesus.

Remember what I told you. I said, ‘A slave is not more important than his master.’ (John 13:16) If people hated me and tried to hurt me, they will do the same to you. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.

You will be thrown out of the synagogue. In fact, the time is coming when someone may kill you. And they will think they are doing God a favor.

When the people heard this, it had a deep effect on them. They said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”

The crowd listened to Paul until he said this. Then they shouted, “Kill him! He isn’t fit to live!”

When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they became very angry. They were so angry they ground their teeth at Stephen.

After many days, the Jews had a meeting. They planned to kill Saul.
