Acts 5:21

Early the next day they did as they had been told. They entered the temple courtyard. There they began to teach the people. The high priest and his companions arrived. They called the Sanhedrin together. The Sanhedrin was a gathering of all the elders of Israel. They sent for the apostles who were in jail.

Joseph was in charge of teaching the princes. He taught the elders how to think and live wisely.

But here is what I tell you. Do not be angry with a brother or sister. Anyone who is angry with them will be judged. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ must stand trial in court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire in hell.

At dawn the elders of the people met together. These included the chief priests and the teachers of the law. Jesus was led to them.

“Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What have you done?”

At sunrise he arrived again in the temple courtyard. All the people gathered around him there. He sat down to teach them.

Now you will tell everyone about what you have seen and heard.

The high priest and the whole Council can be witnesses of this themselves. I even had some official letters they had written to their friends in Damascus. So I went there to bring these people as prisoners to Jerusalem to be punished.

The high priest and all his companions were Sadducees. They were very jealous of the apostles.

They brought the apostles to the Sanhedrin. The high priest questioned them.

But a Pharisee named Gamaliel stood up in the Sanhedrin. He was a teacher of the law. He was honored by all the people. He ordered the apostles to be taken outside for a little while.

The apostles were full of joy as they left the Sanhedrin. They considered it an honor to suffer shame for the name of Jesus.
