The believers there had heard we were coming. They traveled as far as the Forum of Appius and the Three Taverns to meet us. When Paul saw these people, he thanked God for them and was encouraged by them.

Wait for the Lord. Be strong and don’t lose hope. Wait for the Lord.

Then the Lord became very angry with Moses. He said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you. He will be glad to see you.

So they took branches from palm trees and went out to meet him. They shouted, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Psalm 118:25,26) “Blessed is the king of Israel!”

In those days Peter stood up among the believers. About 120 of them were there.

Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests. The next day Peter went with the three men. Some of the believers from Joppa went along.

When Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him. As a sign of respect, he fell at Peter’s feet.

The apostles and the believers all through Judea heard that Gentiles had also received God’s word.

The Holy Spirit told me not to let anything keep me from going with them. These six brothers here went with me. We entered the man’s house.

Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet. He explained how the Lord had brought him out of prison. “Tell James and the other brothers and sisters about this,” he said. Then he went to another place.

When it was time to leave, we continued on our way. All the believers, including their whole families, went with us out of the city. There on the beach we got down on our knees to pray.

There we found some believers. They invited us to spend a week with them. At last we came to Rome.

So I plan to see you when I go to Spain. I hope to visit you while I am passing through. And I hope you will help me on my journey there. But first I want to enjoy being with you for a while.

Give thanks to God! He always leads us as if we were prisoners in Christ’s victory parade. Through us, God spreads the knowledge of Christ everywhere like perfume.

And my sickness was hard on you. But you weren’t mean to me. You didn’t make fun of me. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God. You welcomed me as if I were Christ Jesus himself.

Brothers and sisters, in all our trouble and suffering your faith encouraged us.

Keep on remembering those in prison. Do this as if you were together with them in prison. And remember those who are treated badly as if you yourselves were suffering.

Here is what I am commanding you to do. Be strong and brave. Do not be afraid. Do not lose hope. I am the Lord your God. I will be with you everywhere you go.”

David was greatly troubled. His men were even talking about killing him by throwing stones at him. All of them were very bitter because their sons and daughters had been taken away. But David was made strong by the Lord his God.
