Acts 23:11

The next night the Lord stood near Paul. He said, “Be brave! You have told people about me in Jerusalem. You must do the same in Rome.”

He stands ready to help those who need it. He saves them from those who are ready to sentence them to death.

So do not be afraid. I am with you. Do not be terrified. I am your God. I will make you strong and help you. I will hold you safe in my hands. I always do what is right.

Family of Jacob, you are as weak as a worm. But do not be afraid. People of Israel, there are only a few of you. But do not be afraid. I myself will help you,” announces the Lord. He is the one who sets his people free. He is the Holy One of Israel.

You will pass through deep waters. But I will be with you. You will pass through the rivers. But their waters will not sweep over you. You will walk through fire. But you will not be burned. The flames will not harm you.

Before something even happens, I announce how it will end. In fact, from times long ago I announced what was still to come. I say, ‘My plan will succeed. I will do anything I want to do.’

Right away Jesus called out to them, “Be brave! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end.”

Some men brought to him a man who could not walk. He was lying on a mat. Jesus saw that they had faith. So he said to the man, “Don’t lose hope, son. Your sins are forgiven.”

I have five brothers. Let Lazarus warn them. Then they will not come to this place of terrible suffering.’

I will not leave you like children who don’t have parents. I will come to you.

“I have told you these things, so that you can have peace because of me. In this world you will have trouble. But be encouraged! I have won the battle over the world.”

One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Keep on speaking. Don’t be silent.

After all this had happened, Paul decided to go to Jerusalem. He went through Macedonia and Achaia. “After I have been to Jerusalem,” he said, “I must visit Rome also.”

David spoke about him. He said, “ ‘I know that the Lord is always with me. Because he is at my right hand, I will always be secure.

“Now I am going to Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit compels me. I don’t know what will happen to me there.

Now you will tell everyone about what you have seen and heard.

I saw the Lord speaking to me. ‘Quick!’ he said. ‘Leave Jerusalem at once. The people here will not accept what you tell them about me.’

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Haven’t I seen Jesus our Lord? Aren’t you the result of my work for the Lord?

One thing has become clear. I am being held by chains because I am a witness for Christ. All the palace guards and everyone else know it.

The Lord stood at my side. He gave me the strength to preach the whole message. Then all the Gentiles heard it. I was saved from the lion’s mouth.
