The crowds answered, “This is Jesus. He is the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter. “You must be one of them,” they said. “The way you talk gives you away.”

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. He said to those following him, “What I’m about to tell you is true. In Israel I have not found anyone whose faith is so strong.

All the people were amazed. So they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching! And with so much authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits, and they obey him.”

The man got up and took his mat. Then he walked away while everyone watched. All the people were amazed. They praised God and said, “We have never seen anything like this!”

They replied, “Are you from Galilee too? Look into it. You will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.”

“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking at the sky? Jesus has been taken away from you into heaven. But he will come back in the same way you saw him go.”

They were amazed and bewildered. They asked one another, “What does this mean?”

Then why do we each hear them speaking in our own native language?

They recognized him as the same man who used to sit and beg at the temple gate called Beautiful. They were filled with wonder. They were amazed at what had happened to him.
