The officers reported this to the judges. When the judges heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, they became afraid.

Herod wanted to kill John. But he was afraid of the people, because they thought John was a prophet.

So they looked for a way to arrest him. But they were afraid of the crowd. The people believed that Jesus was a prophet.

“You will be brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities. But do not worry about how to stand up for yourselves or what to say.

Early in the morning the judges sent their officers to the jailer. They ordered him, “Let those men go.”

Right away those who were about to question him left. Even the officer was alarmed. He realized that he had put Paul, a Roman citizen, in chains.
